A beautiful venue for concerts and shows. A quite dilapidated building still redolent of past grandeur. Gorgeous views at sunset. Some rooms recreated with period furniture and costumes.
Great place to spend a couple of hours
Definitely worth a visit! Detailed guide of 20 pages is provided, available in German, English and French. Many interesting things to see. The people running the place are also very nice to talk to.
An interesting "work in progress." Restoration is painfully slow but you can see the "bones" of a magnificent chateau. The monks around here lived very well. The distruction of parts speaks poorly of those who rebelled against a greedy government and church.
The Chateau-Abbaye is a large complex of fine historic buildings being cleaned & restored. The architecture is fine and some attempt have been made at restoring the state rooms and garden, although money is clearly limited. The complex was almost empty when we were there. Worth stopping by if you're near, but not worth an expedition on it's own account.
